Sriperumbudur Block - Quarterly Report

AID INDIA has started working in Sriperumbudur Block of Kanchipuram district since 20th July 2008. 100 schools and 20 villages have been covered during this quarter period. Mr. Mani, the bock coordinator, 3 full timers and 6 part timers are the people working in Sriperumbudur block. The goal of the block for the quarter period was:

i) to build a reputation and brand among the schools and villages
ii) create a good rapport among the school teachers, panchayat presidents and the village volunteers and AID INDIA.

Training to Staff

Induction Program was organized by the block coordinator Mr.Mani for the staff. Ms.Gowri, Project Manager from Chennai gave the induction to the full timers about AIDINDIa’s vision, history, scale and different types of programs conducted. Resource persons from the respective teams conducted training to the staff on health, science and maths as well.

Program in Schools

Story posters, Puzzle game posters, Science atoms posters have been distributed to 100 schools in Sriperumbudur block. AID INDIA staff have took one hour classes everyday on Air Pressure in all the 100 schools for 2 months. Programs in Villages

Learning Centers

Sriperumbudur Learning Center’s goal is to ensure that all children learn the basic skills in Maths and Science by using simple learning kits and books. A staff person is assigned for each learning center which will be functioning on all week days from 4.30 to 7.00 PM. Every child is focused individually and their progress, impact are measured by maintaining a separate register. AID INDIA has started learning centers each in these villages Pudiyanagar, Kunnam, Thirumangadu and Mambakkam. There are about 30 children in each learning centers and are trained in Science - Mechanics and Maths – Number Identification and Addition.

Health Clubs

AID INDIA has formed 20 Village Health Clubs and each club has 20 members. The idea of these health clubs is to create awareness on understanding the anatomy of human body and to educate them on women’s health and wellness. AID INDIA conducts weekly trainings to these health club members so as to educate and create awareness among them. In addition to health, life skills training are also given to them.

Events

Dental Camp

AID INDIA organized a Dental Camp on 28th September 2008 in Kunnam village of
Sriperumbudur block so as to create awareness on dental health and dental check up. Mr. Mani, block coordinator and Ms. Gowri, project manager of AID INDIA together organized the camp held in Panchayat Union Primary School in Kunnam village. Village Panchayat President Mr.Shankar presided over the camp.

Dr.Ravikumar, dentist from Chennai, voluntarily came forward to organize the dental camp. He started the event with an awareness session about the dental health to the children by using simple posters. His session was very interesting and almost all the children participated.

After the session, dental checkup took part in which Dr.Ravikumar examined children one by one. He gave suggestions and advices for those children with dental problems and prescribed medicines as well. Overall, 60 children and 10 adults underwent this dental checkup. Finally, upon AID INDIA’s request, the village president Mr.Shankar donated tooth brushes and Dr.Ravikumar distributed the same to all the participants of the dental camp.

Other Information

  • AID INDIA has collected feedback about our programs, their requests and contact
    details from all the 100 schools of the Sriperumbudur block.
  • AID INDIA has been permitted to conduct Maths & Science Quiz programs in all
    the 60 middle schools of the Sriperumbudur block.
  • AID INDIA has been permitted to run its Computer Program in a school which has
    got 12 computers.
